Where Do We Go From Here?

London, New Zealand, and Conventions to Come
by JennyO

London, London, London ... it's all I can talk about these days. Yes, I'm getting ready to attend this year's Anniversary Convention, and yes, I'm driving everyone here crazy with my excitement. This will be my third convention, and I'm sure it won't be my last. Why? Because they're so much fun. I get to meet BookCrossers from all over the world, I get to paw through piles and piles of books, I get to tour interesting cities, and I get to hear interesting speakers. What's not to like?

This year, I get to do something special. I get to introduce the people who are presenting their cities as possible convention sites in 2010. I know of at least two already who are interested, and if there are more, we'd love to hear from you. If you're wondering what it takes to host a convention, check out this excellent article written by FutureCat. She and her team from New Zealand are hosting the 2009 Anniversary Convention and have hosted several other conventions as well. Hosting is a lot of work, but it can be very rewarding too.

For the past several years, we've voted on future convention locations during the current Anniversary Convention. The BookCrossing Management Team is currently brainstorming ideas for expanding the voting process so that those who can't make a convention can still have input on future locations. For the 2010 convention, we're still planning to vote in London, but we'll keep you updated as arrangements develop.

If you're interested in hosting, either in 2010 or in the future, please contact me (JennyO) via PM. I'll put you in touch with prior hosts who can help you understand what's involved and make sure you get time to convince us that BookCrossers really need to visit your city and see what makes it so special.
