Vienna does it the English way!

Monthly BookCrossing meetings for the English speakers!

Some months ago I met with some fellow BookCrossers at the monthly BookCrossing meeting in the Cafe Schwammerl OBCZ. I hadn't met these BookCrossers before but there were certain books that we had come across on each other's bookshelves that we wanted to trade. So we decided to get together.

This was a new experience for me as most of the Austrian BookCrossers seemed to read German books and I prefer to stick with my native English-written books. However after a chat with these BookCrossers, Verenka & Allbookedup, that evening in the Cafe Schwammerl OBCZ, an idea was born. English BookCrossing Meetings in Vienna! Would it work? Could it take off? Was there a point? Where would we meet? When should we meet?

Somewhere along the line we decided on having the first meet-up at Sheebens International pub. Verenka booked a table and we turned up....and so did 10 other people!!! It was a great start and that evening we agreed that a monthly English meeting could work and the first Tuesday of every month would suit everyone.

The next month we met in the new OBCZ Flanagans. Over 10 people turned up to look at the new shelf full with books. They also added some of their own books as well as catching some! Another great meeting!

The following month we met at Kolar - A lovely place to meet and eat! This time 15 people came along and a big huge pile of books appeared on the table only to disappear again :)

Recently, we met in the Columbus Brau. The weather was on our side and we sat outside with some nice cold drinks. Another 15 or more people turned up for the meeting and an even bigger pile of books appeared on the table. Most of them found homes straight away while others went home with Verenka for the OBCZ in the Haydn English Cinema or with me for the OBCZ Flanagans.

Next month we will be meeting again...not sure where but I know when!

So if you like English books and are in Vienna on the first Tuesday of the month, look us up! With a new place to meet everytime you even get to see a bit more of Vienna :)

Special Thanks to Verenka & Allbookedup for always reserving a table and posting the notices at www.bookcrossing.at. Just remember, the first Tuesday of every month. You can find more details on the English part of the forum at www.bookcrossing.at.
