Salcey Forest Spring Stroll

Spring Northamptonshire Meet up in Salcey Forest
by weebly
May 11, 2006
Today was most definitely Spring in Salcey Forest. I picked up VeganBob at Northampton station and we chatted all the way to Salcey Forest. Korky and Herrgirl were there when we arrived at 12.30, complete with a pile of books on the table. Patchworkperson soon arrived, followed by caffcaff with BigBoss and Tigzz (a welcome surprise that the whole BC-ing family came), rahar109, Gembear (and Mr Gembear) and droggie and angellica with her son liverpoolfan and 2 other non BC-ing family members arrived too. We all grabbed some delicious lunch and drinks from the cafe. At about 1.30 the rest of the weebles arrived - that is BC-Widow, Weebly-boy, WeeblyGirl, Sandysgrandy and Sandysgranny.

Lucky BookCrosser of the day was Rahar109/Rose - a lady approched us while talking on a mobile phone asking if any of us was called Rose - very strange - she then said she was speaking to Rose's husband. Rose had actually dropped her phone out of her pocket. The lady who found it originally phoned Rose's daughter in France, who then phoned her husband, who then phoned the lady and told her to look for a bunch of nutters with piles of books. Well, those weren't his exact words, but whatever he said, worked! We didn't even give her a book to say thank you we were all so surprised.

When all had eaten and drunk we paused for a photo opportunity (see caffcaff's flickr album or droogie's flickr album) then moved off for the mass release of bagged books - the sunshine was glorious and the new green buds and blossom on the trees beautiful. We covered an old fallen log with books and then put LOADS on the way up on the Aerial Walk. We enjoyed the views then as we walked back down the walkway and saw children going the other way clutching caught books to their hearts - what a wonderful sight. Someone went to release a book in the back of a motorised scooter - only to see the owner had caught one already!

On our return to the cafe we all dived in for more tea and cakes. Katisha50 arrived with BrumDog and went and filmed his first ever release - then finally we gradually left one by one as we all wanted to be home for Dr Who on TV! I must also close this description now as it is 7.20 and Dr Who is about to start!

Thanks for coming one and all - and I look forward to seeing you again and more at the next Seasonal Salcey Forest Stroll! When I returned home catches from the shelf in the Forest Cafe came in thick and fast - as I had PM'd local BookCrossers to say if they were too shy to come to the meet they should come over and just sneak off with our books - which they have duly done!
