A very special BookCrossing day

What else would you expect at the marriage of two BookCrossers?!

On 25 February 2006, two BookCrossers, Chelseagirl and ZB (AKA alison-and-ulen), got
married. Nothing unusual in that, except that BookCrossing played a major part in the day, of course!

It started off with several BookCrossers as invited guests - including the illustrious Netstation - on the guest list, some of whom released wedding-themed books outside the church. Then during the ceremony, BookCrossing was talked about by Chelseagirl's mum during the Address, which was based around the theme of enthusiasm. She also mentioned the 18 boxes of books that moved house last year and are STILL waiting to be unpacked!

But that wasn't the end of the BookCrossing link. You know you're supposed to give your guests a small gift at weddings - a small reminder of the day? Some people give bags of sugared almonds, or chocolates, or miniature bottles of whiskey for their favours. Well we decided to be just a little different and give books. Not just any old book, but good second-hand copies of books that one or other (or both) of us had read and enjoyed - and of course all the books were registered on BookCrossing (and nearly all from charity shops - so we've done our bit to make a difference to the world as well). We even designed a special label commemorating our big day. Prior to the wedding we sorted through the books and tried our best to match them with the guest we thought would most enjoy them. Each book was wrapped in purple tissue paper and bound with silver ribbon, attached to which was a parcel tag with the guest's name. Not only did they look stunning but they did a good job as placeholders on the tables too!

At the start of the reception, we took the time to go round and speak to every guest and we had many lovely comments about the day, but most of all people wanted to talk about the books. Everyone loved the idea and seemed really pleased with what we'd chosen for them, and a few people were really impressed that we'd given them a book they already owned, as it meant we'd done a good job of guessing their reading tastes! We encouraged guests to
swap with each other and not one book was left at the end of the night.

So, a great idea was appreciated by all. Just a shame we're still waiting for the journal entries (including Netstation's, tut tut!) - but we're sure they'll come in the end!
