I caught a book!

At least, I think I caught a wild book...

I thought I'd stick labels in a couple of the books I got from
freecycle (a website where you offer up things you don't want and arrange for someone who does want them to come and collect) preparatory to registering them, and saw what looked suspiciously like a BookCrossing ID (BCID) number in one, although with no sign that it was actually a BCID number. So I tried to journal it - and found it was the number for a pre-numbered label belonging to CarrotTop in Indiana!

So, I wrote a journal entry, explaining how excited I was, how I wondered how
the book had got here from Indiana, and a bit of the blurb from the
back. After submitting the journal entry, I took a look at CarrotTop's shelf.

CarrotTop was active in 2002 and 2003. The book has stamped inside it "Withdrawn from Merton public libraries" and the number for Wimbledon library in it - which for those of you who don't know, is in London.

So, was the number a BCID, or was it pure happenstance that a number
written in the book matched exactly a pre-numbered label issued to an American? If I ever find out, I shall let you know!
