Switzerland meets Italy

How we Made an International Meetup

Imagine a night out with some BookCrossers. Pretend it is a Christmas Meetup. You just know it will be a lovely night. But wait -- there’s something more. Come along and see.

Imagine that the meeting is in Lugano, Switzerland. Then imagine it so happens that some BookCrossers living in Como, Italy, decide to take the car and drive up to Lugano. (After all, it is closer than Milan) All of a sudden, this is a two-country meeting!

Meetings such as this happen at least 3 times a year, the last one on December 22. Italy and Switzerland met at the restaurant “Il trenin”, had dinner, talked about books and Christmas and holidays and, as BookCrossing taught us, loads of books were on the table. Some of them were packed as surprises, so each of us could take one. VioletMoth showed us her thesis, which is all about BookCrossing. The thesis had pictures of us, and even interviews!

Perhaps the most lovely outcome of our meetups is that, thanks to BookCrossing, Cuteboy and Ops met. They were married last spring, and their baby girl is due in January! I couldn’t stop myself taking a picture of ‘her’ still sleeping in her mum’s belly... next time we gather, we’re going to meet a very young BookCrosser!!

And that's how we made an international meetup.
