Morris Men meet BookCrossers!

St George’s Day Celebrations at the Cherry Tree OBCZ
by Molyneux
June 1, 2005
CaffCaff arrived early at the Cherry Tree in Steventon for our regular bi-monthly meeting – the first she had attended – and was astonished to find that the pub, its car park and garden were filled with strangely-dressed people, playing music and wearing flowers and ribbons in their hats. . . was this outlandish costume the norm for BookCrossers in Oxfordshire? She frantically sent me a text message to ask if she was in the right place!

The Cherry Tree had arranged for Morris Dancers to perform as part of their St. George’s Day celebrations, and the music certainly gave a party atmosphere to the BookCrossing Meet! 28 BookCrossers came from various parts of the country - Dorset and Kent in the South – Coventry, Nuneaton and Milton Keynes. . . WistfulDragon came with 2 of her Dragonets from London, and we even had some new local BookCrossers! Netstation came armed with his JellyBeans -- maybe he should change his BookCrossing screen name to the JellyBean Man – which is now what many of our younger BookCrossers call him!

Weebly was on form and went into PR mode, selling BookCrossing to the Morris Dancers and their families. The result was that many went away with armfuls of books, promising to come to the next meet, and in return BookCrossers joined in with their dances!
