Paper and Ink, Cardboard and Glue

A poem

She has thousands of friends,
Always there for her.
They comfort her, thrill her, take her on marvelous adventures.
Her friends are paper and ink, cardboard and glue.

Some make her cry.
Some make her heart swell with love.
With some she laughs, from others she learns and grows.
Her friends are paper and ink, cardboard and glue.

Alone in the world,
She surrounds herself with friends
That never hurt or neglect her, cut or reject her.
Her friends are paper and ink, cardboard and glue.

Some, she finds, linger but a moment
Fun at first meeting, but not worth holding on to.
Light and entertaining, cotton-candy friends.
Made of paper and ink, cardboard and glue.

Others have been with her
Long as she can remember
Scruffy and old, but treasured like gold.
Made of paper and ink, cardboard and glue.

Everywhere she goes a friend goes with,
Barricade to human glance.
Her friends are her protection against the harshness of the world.
Made of paper and ink, cardboard and glue.
