An excellent read about women and friendship. Look forward to discussing this with my book group next week and then sending out as a bookray. Participant list and shipping order will be posted on my bookshelf soon.

This arrived today. I'm out of town, but my boyfriend opened the package so I could "catch" the book. I'll start this when I get back into town.

I am so glad I read this book! Every heart warming story of two Chinese girls who become women in the late 1800s. They referred to themselves "same olds" and were friends for many years. This was my favorite quote from the book, "Raising a girl and marrying her off is like building a fancy road for others to use." This was said when Lily goes to meet her in-laws for the first time. This was so true of traditional Chinese custom in the late 1800s. I will mail this to ghaweyn on Monday.

I received the book in the mail a few days ago and started reading it right away. I got to chapter three and couldn't read any further. I have a strong aversion to feet. I can't read any more about feetbinding. I am highly grossed out and having nightmares. I will mail this on to the next person as soon as I have an address. Thanks for sharing this book anyway.

I really enjoyed this book! I do sometime read historical fiction & I'm always amazed to find how the story is woven from actual facts. The customs of this time are certainly not something I can relate to, but the human emotion is. In that sense, we are really all the same (imho).
Thanks for sharing this book, Sabeena29!:)

I was unable to reach fairydustwings by PM, so this book is being mailed off to the next person tomorrow.
Enjoy Bluestocking88:)

Last night I picked this up thinking I'd just start it and read a couple of chapters. I couldn't put it down and stayed up most of the night in order to finish it. I was fascinated about the feet binding and the general helplessness of the women in the book to influence their lives. I enjoyed the writing style and storytelling of Lisa See.

Thank you very much for sharing sabeena29. I look forward to reading more books by Lisa See. I am waiting for greenmethods' address so I can get this moving.

I had a difficult time with this one. I read it but can't honestly claim to have enjoyed it.

Will ship to next person once I have her address.
