My Beloved World by U.S. Supreme Court justice, Sonia Sotomayor, talks about her childhood, visiting Puerto Rico and her parents' paths they took to coming to the United States. There are stories about her family, friends, the different parts of the Bronx (projects) she lived in, as well as her experiences in education, including her years at Princeton and Yale Law. They are relatable and interesting stories and she also recounts her friendship and marriage to her childhood sweetheart and the unraveling of it, and how she left Yale Law to practice in the New York City District Attorneys' Office. To note, as a paralegal I was previously unaware that she had worked as an Assistant District Attorney (ADA), Justice Katanji Brown Jackson is a former Federal Public Defender and now it is good we have two (2) justices on the Court that have worked in the Criminal Justice system and seen its procedural shortcomings.
The Justice wrote a lot of about learning how to practice as an ADA but she eventually left there for an international law firm where she learned intellectual property law concentrating on fashion trademarks, most notably for the Fendi family. One of her partners/mentors at the law firm insisted that she apply for a Federal Judgeship and then it was onto the US Court of Appeals before the US Supreme Court nomination. The book does mainly focus on her early life and how she found her way into her love for the law. My favorite quote that I am noting down is: "Good people can do bad things, make bad choices. It doesn't make them bad people."

Thank you, edithdoll, for offering me this book and posting it so quickly! I have a tall TBR pile but this looks very interesting so I’ll start it next.
Interesting memoir about Sonia Sotomayor’s family and modest background, her education, and how she worked her way up to become an associate justice on the US Supreme Court.
