I really enjoyed this book. Reading about courtesans is inevitably interesting, as they were women with some power in the 18th-19th century but sadly most have an unglamorous end. I suspect this is because they were often uneducated, particularly where money was concerned. And therefore they never set aside money for later, or they were exploited or swindled. But mostly the former, they were tremendous at spending, not so good at saving.

An interesting read about a colourful character.
