Bellah's incisivness and penetration of insight exemplify sociological analysis at it's best. Specifically, he argues that political loyalties more than economics determined the values of the era. His work is a refutation of any simple economic determinism as well as of identification of Chinese and Japanese thought in a single oriental culture.
