Snowball, Dragonfly, Jew: A Novel
2 journalers for this copy...
I read this book about a year ago. I wished I'd kept the notes I'm sure I made.
Over on the GoodReads site, shortly after reading the book, I had this to say:
"I enjoyed this quick read immensely, but I don't know if I "get" it or even know what this new-to-me author wants me to get. I have close to a bajillion questions. Maybe this review will consist of my questions.
Like am I bad? Am I an NME? I'm sure I've called my JewISH friends Jews. I'd swear they've referred to themselves as Jews. Going to find out...
Well great. Appears I've been indulged. Not bad. Not NME. Just a rube."
I never did get my GoodReads review done, but I do remember initiating various conversations with my Jewish friends in an attempt to better understand this book, them and me.
There is in this book a certain freshness and lightness/playfulness. At the same time though, I felt a great underlying sense of mourning and loss both of which, interestingly, permeated those conversations I had with my Jewish friends. It was as if my questions were being tolerated (welcomed with good humour even) but that I could not be trusted with a full answer. Or perhaps, they either did not know how to answer or it was too painful to do so.
I thought this to be a significant and excellent read and one deserving of a re-read. I will also seek out this author's previous book of short stories.
This particular copy is an ARC. Although I in fact paid good money for it, the next reader will read for free. :)

This book had a very good run at LFL #2873. It's been out on loan quite often and in fact I noticed it had been returned from its last adventure only on Saturday (June 22) when I was restocking the library. I considered leaving it in the library but decided to send it out on a different adventure. Library patrons tend not to journal the books they take out. I don't know why that is, but perhaps its because they expect to find a book at the little library and intend to return it there and feel no compunction to let anyone know they have it. So a new adventure awaits for this book and maybe this time we'll find out what it is up to.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
So I set off on a hunting expedition to the bus stop at Carlton and Broadway. I'd received a release alert that gypsysmom had released a book by one of my favourite authors there. Lo and behold gypsysmom's book was still there. So I nabbed it and left this one on the bench in its place.
