I bought this ARC at a charity shop in Oakville, Ontario. I picked it up because it's set in Kansas and I thought it would help me with a 50 States (USA) reading challenge that I'm working on (and hoping to complete) this year.

This is a very dark book. The back says something about a missing woman and family secrets, so you know going in that it's not going to be all sunshine and sunflowers, but.... Wow. Really quite dark. The subject matter is horrible, and it can be graphic/explicit and disturbing at times; but it also has some characters that you can care about, a story that can keep you turning the pages, and writing that can be quite lovely sometimes as well. Although this was not really my kind of book in general, I would potentially pick up something else by this author as I think she is a talented writer-- I just might want to know a little more about it first.

I've struggled with what to do with this book in order to pass it on, but ultimately a Little Free Library (or similar) served like a good option. When I found out there was one on Roanoke Place in Hamilton, that sealed the deal. My husband is from Hamilton originally and we were back there tonight, so we made a little detour to leave this in the Roanoke Place book box!
